Life seems on pause right now amidst COVID-19. We’re all struggling to make sense of this. Trying to understand if we are overreacting or not acting enough… only time will tell. Some of us are dealing with the stress of providing for our families and caring for our children in the middle of our personal anxieties.
I know that’s definitely the case for me and I’m sure I’m not alone. As the world comes together in some sense to battle an unknown, we see so much good come and unity. I love it! I wish we could continue it beyond the pandemic. That’s my hope anyway.
Some people argue this will change our world forever. I have to agree. Like many events in the past, we’ve had to mold our lives to conform to a new reality. Right now, our reality is social distancing and limited access to conveniences we once took for granted.
We also have to conform to the reality that our day to day lives have been disrupted to an astronomical degree. I believe it’s important to recognize this can lead to a huge upheaval in the way we cope with day to day life in general. Stress and anxiety can go through the roof at times like these.
Here’s what I am doing to combat and ease my stress and anxiety:
- Create a new daily routine- set an alarm, get out of bed, shower, make your bed.
- Spending time with God- ground yourself in the words of Christ to help give you comfort.
- Journal- this helps empty the worries and stresses out of your mind and helps process emotions.
- Physical activity (with social distancing)- go for a walk, do a workout on YouTube, create your own. This will definitely help shake off the restlessness.
- Nourish your body- try to stay away from eating out of boredom, eat fresh food when possible and limit sugar as much as possible.
- Self-care ritual- take a bubble bath, at-home pedicure, play with new hairstyles, whatever makes you feel good about you.
I hope this list gives you some ideas to ease the stress we’re all under right now. Focus on one day at a time and do the best you can and forget the rest.
Bible verse for encouragement
Psalms 46:1-3
“God is our refuge and strength,
an ever-present help in trouble.
Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way
and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea
though its waters roar and foam
and the mountains quake with their surging.
